Pollinator Gardens
Build it and they will come
If you have any outdoor space, there are things that you can do to support your local pollinators. Transforming a mono-culture lawn to a bio-diverse habitat is a passion of mine. I like to combine native flowers with herbs. Honey Bees, which are native to Europe actually love mints , rosemary and thyme which are perfect for their smaller tongues. Here in NC, USA the purple coneflower is a flower to please all pollinators! There are also things you can do in your landscape to encourage native bees, butterflies and fireflies. Once you put these plantings and practices in place, you will be amazed at who shows up like dragon flies, birds and garden spiders. I was a founding member of the Bee City Committee in Durham NC, worked with schools and individuals and enjoy consulting with people about transforming spaces into habitats
